Premature Ejaculation and Chinese Medicine

Premature Ejaculation (PE) is a stressful concern for many men.  Those who experience PE quite often have no understanding of its cause and this can create frustration and ongoing stress on how to solve the mystery surrounding it.  If you are like many of our clients, you may be experiencing daily thoughts about how to create a healthier sex life for yourself as well as being able to satisfy your partner.  You may even be experiencing anxiety leading to avoiding sexual experiences due to feelings of inadequacy.

Chinese Medicine and acupuncture views PE in many ways.  One way is to take what we know from Western medicine and apply it to Chinese Medical theory. In order to maintain prolonged erections the parasympathetic nervous system, (the rest and digest part of your nervous system), needs to be engaged and for ejaculation to occur the sympathetic nervous system is activated (the fight and flight response).

Many men have experienced PE from a young age from feeling anxiety during their first sexual experiences.  This can then create a pattern in their fight and flight response that has continued with them throughout life.  By applying this knowledge with the tools we have in Chinese Medicine and acupuncture to balance your nervous system, your body will have a better chance to receive sexual stimuli in a relaxed way so you can enjoy your sexual experiences.

With this concern many clients are nervous that needles will be placed in the genital area, but PE is usually not a genital concern and is more of a full body organ and nervous system response to sexual stimulus. There is no need to put needles near the genitals and you will remain mostly clothed and comfortable during your treatment, however there may be times where your acupuncturist may need to treat your back or chest area- you will usually be laying face up or down on the treatment table.

During the treatment the acupuncture practitioner will talk with you about your concerns and ask a few general questions about any symptoms you may have, for instance, whether your body temperature seems hot or cold… the answers to your questions will help the practitioner choose the most effective treatment for you.

There are hundreds of acupuncture points on the body.  Needles used in acupuncture are very small and hair thin. We do not inject anything through the needle and all needles are single use, meaning they are sterile and discarded after one application.  They do not hurt at all and most people are surprised at how relaxed they feel when leaving the acupuncture treatment room.
